Seven Nights
Seven Days
Check in
to
Wawa, Ontario on
Saturday February 27th, 2010 – we will all meet and answer any questions
that you may have on the great wilderness ride that we have planned for
you. We will have your trail permits
made out and ready for you – if you do not require one, please
let us know when booking the vacation. The cost of the trail
permits will be approximately $120.00 Canadian per sled.
There is a hot tub and out door sauna to relax in tonight and
we also have a large TV room that everyone can get acquainted
with each other, have a game of cards or a few cocktails if
they wish.
Sunday February 28th
– after breakfast on our first
day we will ride to Hearst – about 240 miles. Heated inside
storage is available for the sleds at a cost of $5.00 per
sled. This is a good opportunity to give them a check over
and attach to your sled what you will need for the next 3
nights
before we start out on our wilderness ride. We will relax
over supper as we discuss our ride for tomorrow. On this
part of the ride – everyone will have to pack and carry on
their sled what they will need for their stay in Moosonee &
Attawapiskat–
extra oil, changes of clothes, etc. The AAA hotel we are
staying at tonight offers hot tubs, exercise
room and sauna. There is also a gentleman’s bar located just
down the street.
Monday March 1 – after breakfast we will be on our
sleds and ready to go at 7:00 am. We will meet up with
the support crew that hauls the gas for us. The mileage
is approximately 220 miles cross country – we pull fuel
for each sled on this part of the trip. You must be able to
get 100 miles to a tank of fuel
Everyone must also come equipped to and carry on your sled three gallons
of fuel.
Any sled coming that gets over
20 miles to the gallon and has a 10
Gallon tank does not have to carry extra gas. If you
get under 17 miles to the gallon you do have to carry 3 Gallons of
gas No Exceptions.
We will get back to you on the cost of the fuel
that is being hauled for us. We run four guides on this part
of the trip so we can cater to the different riding abilities
of each group. On this part of the journey you will
experience some fantastic scenery along the way and riding
that you will not believe.
Our first leg of our trip to Moosonee is approximately 15
miles of groomed trail. From here on we will be riding
completely in the wilderness cross country 205 miles. On our
way to Moosonee we will stop at a trappers cabin for a
rest and also at the wonderful Thunder House Falls for some
photo opportunities and a rest. Our next stop will be Hells
Gate Canyon, for some more excellent photos. On our last
leg we will be passing underneath the long Moose River Crossing Bridge and then up to the town of Moosonee
for gas then take the ice bridge to Moose Factory.
This promises some breath taking scenery for photos and
opportunities to possibly see lots of different types of
wildlife along the way. We will be staying in Moose Factory
for tonight in a AAA modern lodge that is an experience
that everyone will enjoy.
Tuesday March 2 – After breakfast we will head
north to Attawapiskat - 160 miles north of Moosonee.
A community with an amazing heritage.
The community sits on a historic traditional site where Cree
families have lived for centuries. We will explore
the vast wilderness this area has to offer on the ride to Fort
Albany. We will have lunch and gas here. Then we are off to
Attawapiskat to our motel.
Wednesday
March 3 - Our motel is set
in one of the last truly pristine wilderness environments in
the world. You will be dazzled by the clear night sky
which is filled with diamond like stars.
The northern lights or aurora
borealis are very intense and vivid in this part of the far
north in Canada.
Today we will head up the cost of James Bay to the traditional hunting grounds north of Attawapiskat,
towards Hudson's Bay
where
generation after generation of
Cree
hunters have hunted to feed their families.
In 1901, the Hudson's Bay Company built a store
in Attawapiskat. Originally, the people in the area around
Attawapiskat lived in the bush along the river throughout most
of the year.
This will be a full day with lots of memories and wildlife
photos and an experience you will cherish for years to come.
Thursday March 4 – our experience in
Attawapiskat was fun and yesterdays ride was just great and
the photos we got were amazing and in the past 2 days we
have seen and learnt about a Cree heritage that you will find no
where else in the world. Now we are on the trail to Moosonee.
We have to be in Moosonee before 5:00 p.m. to catch the train to
Cochrane. We will arrive in Cochrane at about 9:30 p.m.

Friday March 5 - after breakfast we will ride over to Hornepayne – approximately 250 miles. We
will be staying in a hotel which is located inside of a mall.
After a fantastic supper you may wish to relax in the lounge.

Saturday March 6th – after breakfast we will start out on our
last day of riding together as we head back to Wawa, about 240
miles. At the 100 mile mark we will stop for gas and lunch.
Upon our arrival in Wawa, everyone will have a chance to say
goodbye to all of their new friends before loading up their
sleds and heading out for home. Or you may choose to stay the
night and leave in the morning - a hot tub, sauna and a
few cocktails makes a for great sleep and you are well rested
for your drive home. This is the last tour of the season and
tonight will be a good one.
